What is Vacuum Insulated Glass?

Vacuum Insulated Glass (VIG) Summary

1. What is vacuum glass?
Vacuum insulated glass (VIG) is a high-performance architectural glazing product. It consists of two glass sheets separated by a micro-sized evacuated cavity, supported by tiny transparent micro-pillars. With hermetic edge sealing and optional low‑emissivity (low‑E) coatings, VIG achieves superior thermal insulation at a slim overall thickness (typically 6–12 mm). It can be applied in new high-performance windows, curtain walls, facades and building retrofits.
2. How vacuum glass works?

(1) Elimination of conductive & convective heat transfer: Air is pumped out of the inter-pane cavity to form a high-vacuum environment. Without gas molecules, heat transfer via conduction and convection between the two glass panes is almost eliminated.

(2) Suppression of radiative heat transfer: A low‑E coating is applied on the glass surface to reflect infrared radiant heat, which compensates for the heat transfer that vacuum cannot block.

(3) Structural support & long-term vacuum retention: Micro-pillars maintain the spacing of glass panes against atmospheric pressure. Hermetic edge sealing and internal getters preserve the vacuum state over the service life to sustain stable thermal performance.

Key feature: Compared with conventional insulated glass units, VIG delivers much better thermal insulation with a thinner profile, suitable for retrofit projects where original window frame depth is limited.

FAQ

Questions Before You Order?

What is the service life of vacuum glass?

SHEN-SHILEI vacuum glass is designed for long-term performance. Our one-step manufacturing process creates a fully sealed vacuum cavity with stable vacuum integrity. Under standard installation and normal operating conditions, our vacuum glass is designed for a service life of up to 50 years, making it suitable for long-term energy-efficient buildings and high-performance glazing applications.

We offer flexible MOQ options for B2B vacuum glass orders. There is no strict MOQ for formal bulk orders, and we can support both small-batch trial orders and larger project requirements. MOQ may vary depending on glass size, configuration, Low-E coating and customization requirements.

Standard vacuum glass samples can typically be completed within 3–5 working days. Custom sizes or special Low-E configurations generally require 5–7 working days. Sample delivery can be arranged by international express services such as DHL or FedEx, depending on the destination and shipping requirements.

SHEN-SHILEI provides a 25-year manufacturer warranty for vacuum glass products. The warranty covers qualifying manufacturing-related issues, including non-artificial vacuum leakage or structural failure, subject to the applicable warranty terms. Our automated one-step production process is designed to support consistent quality and long-term performance.

Vacuum glass is packed using export-grade wooden crates, protective cushioning and anti-collision measures to help protect the glass during long-distance transportation. We support international shipping arrangements and commonly used trade terms such as FOB, CIF and DDP, depending on project requirements and destination.
